Several of our members have their own layouts, some are available for exhibiting at Model Railway Shows.
Dunwich
An N gauge layout being built by David Morton. This is his first attempt at building a DCC controlled layout. It is a small terminus layout. Dunwich is an actual town on the Suffolk coast and was a very important port and trading town until coastal erosion gradually swept the town out to sea and it is now a quiet and beautiful place to visit. In Davids scenario the town remained a major port and town and hence a railway station was built there.
Mortimer
An OO gauge layout of Mortimer Station being built by Ian Cull. Mortimer is a station on the Berks and Hants line and close to Ian’s house. He has carried out extensive research on the station and immediate area and what type of trains were used on the line. The track has been hand-built and members of the club assist Ian in this project.
Newchurch
An N gauge layout built by Brian Lee. This is a through station allowing a lot of train movement to interest the viewer. Brian’s main interest is building the scenery and takes a lot of care with the details.
A small N gauge layout built by Brian Lee. This was Brians first attempt at building his own layout. It is on a 3 feet square board and he has packed a lot of interesting details on to it, including a beach scene, ruined chapel, shops, caravan park and a railway.
Sharptor
This Great Western Railway OO layout based in Cornwall has been built by Chris Marsh. He has devised a history for the station – Originally Sharptor was built as a depot on the Kilmar Railway. The Kilmar line was taken over by the Liskeard and Caradon Railway and then by the Liskeard and Looe Railway. In 1909 the GWR took over the working of the line. After the 1st World War the GWR abandoned the line beyond Sharptor but rebuilt the line between Moorswater and Sharptor making Sharptor the northern terminus of the line. It is now 1935 and the line is busy taking passengers to and from Liskeard and bringing coal and other goods for the local villagers. There is still a stone working yard, but this doesn’t generate much traffic now.
In reality the GWR abandoned and lifted the whole line north of Moorswater in 1918 and very little of the line or the industries it served, now remains.
Westchurch
An N gauge layout built by David Morton. The layout is based on Eastchurch Station on the Isle of Sheppy but as the surrounding area of Eastchurch was not modeled David decided to rename the station to Westchurch. When it is shown at exhibitions an intensive service is operated to keep the viewers entertained.
