These are the layouts we are currently working on.
Our largest OO layout 26ft x 10ft operated from a central well with a fiddle yard at the rear. It has a twin track main line with passing loops at the station. It has been designed to offer the viewing public a constant supply of trains. Paul Barrett has painted the backscenes, Chris Marsh has built the station buildings and is to start work on the station masters house. The electrics are being upgraded by Mike Ellis. This layout is coming together.
Loddon on the Fosse
This OO gauge layout is based on a small Somerset and Dorset Railway terminus as it would have been in the 1920/30s. Several of our members have carried out extensive research to ensure that the details are correct to period and railway company. The buildings have been scratch built by our member Peter Watson and are based on actual buildings that were on the railway or surrounding area. Peter has also worked out a timetable and has assembled correct train formations.
Loddon Road
An OO layout 18′ x 2′, fiddle yard to terminus layout. This layout is based on a small branch line with a connecting mineral line. The track has been hand built and it is the proud boast of this group that there is not a straight bit of track on this layout. It is not based on any part of the country or era, but steam locomotives will be the usual motive power. Great effort and care has been taken over the scenery. Two extra boards are to be added to this layout making it a through station for greater operational interest.
Loddonside
This is our first venture into digital command. It is an OO gauge layout and is based on a Motive Power Depot in the transition period between steam and diesel power. The loco’s, points and turntable are digitally controlled. We have finalised the track plan and laid the track and points. We have also bought an C & L Finescale coaling stage kit also a Townscene locomotive shed kit, these are currently being built by two of our members.
Loddonsee
Our first venture into HO. This layout is being built by members with a continental taste. It is a small Austrian terminus using steam and diesel locomotives. As at November the track has been laid and some buildings have been made prior to fixing them onto the layout.
Loddon Bay
An N gauge layout, 12′ x 1′, it is a seaside terminal station and features a beach scene, it is intensively operated to give interest to the visitors. The layout has attended many exhibitions and has received many positive comments.
Redhatch
This small N gauge layout was built by one of our members, Alan Spratling, who unfortunately passed away in 2009. His family have asked us to complete it and take care of it. We have finished most of the scenery and the layout has been displayed at several exhibitions.
